Despite public support for repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy many still fail to understand what it says and how it works. In a recent article at NBC Los Angeles online, Caitlin Millat makes a common mistake by stating that the 11 service members discharged in January "wouldn't comply with 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' and openly discussed their homosexuality."

The BBC announced today that President Obama has ended the Bush administration prohibition against using government funding to support stem cell research. The ban has been in effect since 2001 and was reversed by an executive order, a device the President also used to end the policy known as the "global gag rule" at the end of January.

The end of "don't ask, don't tell" will inevitably be far less political and more collaborative than its creation was 15 years ago. President Obama's rhetoric demands it.

It's useful to take a step back every now and then, and to look upon

There is one arena where apparently opponents of gay service and
advocates of openly gay service agree. That is on the seriousness and
prevalence of sexual and gender violence in the military.
