SAN FRANCISCO, CA – In anticipation of a potential decision tomorrow by the Supreme Court of the United States on whether to accept the Trump Administration’s appeal of preliminary injunctions preventing implementation of a transgender military ban – and whether to issue a stay of the injunctions, allowing the Trump ban to go into effect – the Palm Center today released the following memo.

The Palm Center memo describes four possible Supreme Court actions tomorrow on transgender service, explains their implications for military readiness, and provides key background information on the Trump ban and the success of 2.5 years of inclusive service.

“If allowed to go into effect, the Mattis policy would be ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ for transgender troops,” said Palm Center Director Aaron Belkin.  “For over two years, inclusive policy has been a success and to whipsaw military personnel policy back towards discrimination is damaging to military readiness and ultimately degrades the safety and security of the United States.”
